Though I live in Boston, I was born in New Jersey, and I have friends and family in the Garden State. My family and I are down there several times a year.
I don't have to try to wax poetic about how New Jersey got walloped by Hurricane Sandy; you've probably seen the pictures. If not, here's an article that pretty much sums up the damage to Long Beach Island, where we go and sponge off of beloved family members every summer.
I was trying to think about how to encourage people to help New Jersey without drawing unseemly attention to myself. I'm not going to bundle donations or auction anything or anything that makes it about me.
But I would like to thank you for helping Jersey out. Since Terror at the Shore owes its existence to the Jersey Shore, it seems like a fitting bonus. So here's the deal. Make a donation to the American Red Cross (or the Jersey-helping charity of your choice) and screenshot it and send it to me or forward me the confirmation email (brendan at brendanhalpindotcom) and I'll send you a DRM-free epub of Terror at the Shore.
I'm not egotistical enough to believe that the promise of an awesome EC-comics style horror novel set at the Jersey Shore will move thousands who wouldn't otherwise donate. But I would like to thank you on behalf of the Garden State if you do choose to help.
Thanks!
The title of this post comes from the opening number of The Toxic Avenger Musical, which is fantastic and which you should see if you have the opportunity. Here's the song for your enjoyment:
