Funny that the Chili Peppers don't impersonate Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers in their video--I guess they felt that impersonating them in the music was enough.
Anyway, then there was this:
Which is an even more blatant ripoff of this:
So here's my question: Was there some sort of long-dormant Tom Petty virus implanted in these guys in the early 90's? Who's next? What is it about alt rockers in their 40's that makes them want to rip off Tom Petty? Why not just cover "Even the Losers?"
Is Beck immune because Tom Petty covered one of his songs? (it's "Asshole", but I can't find the Petty version online.)
