    Miss Rap Supreme

Well, I realize I've been a bit sour and cynical lately, so I thought I'd write about something new and wonderful: VH1's Miss Rap Supreme.

As longtime readers know, I was a big fan of last season's White Rapper Show, and yet I think the producers may have topped themselves with this. It's essentially the same format as The White Rapper show--a bunch of rappers in a house, rap-related tasks, and an elimination round where everybody has to spit a hot 16 or go home.

Oh yeah, and of course they stock the house with lots of booze to facilitate maximum drunken catfights. Though I guess they've told the contestants that throwing a punch will lead to elimination, because in the first episode there was a lot of screaming in faces but no actual blows.

Anyway, I feel like we have a lot of underdogs to root for this time around: Lady Twist, the morbidly obese and very talented rapper; the beautiful one who recently had one eye disfigured; and the white girl from Massachusetts who's a recovering drug addict. And, of course, villains: the sad, one-hit-wonder female rapper (I had never heard of her or her "hit," but whatever), the evil one who mocks the recovering addict for being a crackhead, and more.

MC Serch is on hand as the host, along with Yo Yo. One episode in, and we've already had the obligatory "this aint no game" barked by somebody, though of course it is a game. That's kind of the whole point.

Anyway, the winner of The White Rapper Show, Shamrock, hasn't done much since then, though he does have some songs up on his myspace page, so who knows what will become of the winner of Miss Rap Supreme. But I will certainly enjoy the ride!
